WWE: The Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin were WWE’s biggest stars of the Attitude Era.
The two icons shared the ring on so many occasions during an epic rivalry that saw them headline WrestleMania 15 and 17.

At both of those shows, it was Stone Cold who came out on top.

But their most memorable match came at WrestleMania 19 in 2003 – the trilogy bout. When The Rock finally triumphed over his great rival.

That night, he also retired The Texas Rattlesnake.

By that point, Austin’s body was already in bad shape after suffering a number of injuries. But very few knew this would be his final match in WWE.

The Rock, of course, was one of those in on the secret and he shared an emotional moment. With his great rival after securing the three count.

During an Instagram Q&A 17 years on.

The WWE ‘Great One’ finally revealed what he said to Stone Cold that night.

“I hit him with three Rock Bottoms, I believe it was three Rock Bottoms. Appropriately that’s what you need to beat The Rattlesnake,” Rock said, during an Instagram Live video.

“You can actually see me as I sit up and he’s laying there – in front of everybody – and I whisper to him, ‘I thank you so much for everything that you have done for me. I said, ‘I love you,’ and I heard him say, ‘I love you, too.”

What a wonderful moment shared between two of WWE’s greatest ever.

Despite being great rivals inside the ring, both Steve Austin and The Rock have spoken very highly of each other since retiring.

To know they shared an emotional exchange at WrestleMania 19, in the heat of the moment, will mean so much to WWE fans who adored them both.
