Hilary Clinton calls on Buhari, Army to stop killing of #EndSARS protesters.
Former United States presidential candidate, Hilary Clinton, has called on President Muhammadu Buhari and the Nigeria Army to stop the killing of peaceful #EndSARS protesters
Thereby,calling for reforms in the police, including better welfare packages for police officers.
Recall that the #EndSARS protesters, who had been holding forth at the Lekki Toll Gate in Lagos, were shot at on Tuesday night,
shortly after Governor Babjide Sanwo-Olu declared a 24-hour curfew.
Reacting to the latest development,Hilary, the wife of former US President Bill Clinton,
Tweeted thereby calling on President Buhari and the army to stop the killing of young #EndSARS protesters.
Clinton joins a growing list of foreign stars and other VIPs that have expressed support for the campaign.
Her tweet read:
“I’m calling on @mbuhari (President Muhammadu Buhari) and the @hqnigerianarmy (Nigeria Army) to stop killing young #EndSARS protesters. “#StopNigeriaGovernment.”
However,the reactions have been pouring in, with many thanking her for lending her voice .
American Politician, Hillary Clinton, has called on the Nigerian Government to stop killing #EndSARS protesters.
Clinton made the call in a tweet on Tuesday,
in reaction to the shooting by officers of the Nigerian Army that occurred in the Lekki Toll Gate Area of the Lagos State killings.
About The Incident?
The incident happened at about 7:00 pm on Tuesday.
They were protesting peacefully when the armed security operatives came and opened fire at them.
According to one of the protesters who was still at the scene of the incident at about 10:30 pm
while many others sustained gunshot wounds. several persons are feared dead,So far
while others tried to extract the bullets.
Some videos from eyewitnesses at the scene of the incident showed some persons bleeding seriously
Others were seen administering CPR to some injured persons, to resuscitate them.
The incident comes hours after the Lagos State Government declared a 24-hour curfew as part of efforts to stop the violence which had broken out in some parts of the state by criminal
Although the curfew was to commence at 4:00 pm,
many were still seen protesting across the state.
At the Lekki Toll Gate which has been one of the major converging points,
peaceful and unarmed protesters were still seen gathered in large numbers hours after the curfew was to have commenced.
The situation, however,
took a turn for the worse around 7:00 pm when the security operatives stormed the area and started shooting sporadically.
the state government in a tweet at 7:08 pm had stated that the curfew would not start until 9:00 pm, to allow those stuck in traffic to get to their homes.
